Lots of 4k content is either HDR or Dolby Vision. The recent versions of Plex can do HDR to SDR tone mapping while transcoding. I'm sure you want the fancy audio on the disc. I just made that suggestion because TrueHD/Atmos audio has been a topic of discussion on this forum and a thing MakeMKV has been evolving & working on in recent releases.

Did you try gently cleaning your disc Tw3ak? Even brand new discs can sometimes have an almost invisible film on them.
