Re: Possible to create decrypted UHD backup from encrypted backup?

If you did the backup with MakeMKV, there should be a file named discatt.dat at the top of the directory tree. If that is present, MakeMKV can open the backup and write an unencrypted copy.

Re: 2 issues/questions regarding BR movies and tv shows.

It's normal for ripping speed to increase as you go. The bits are on the disk at a specific density, which means more bits per rotation, the further you get from the hub. All episodes in one file vs. separate files per episode is the decision of the disk author. Some have both. And it doesn't matter...

Re: How can I determine correct subtitle tracks?

I have not done a recent search, but there aren't many reliable, automatic, ways to detect the "proper" subtitle. If you have a TV series, usually the subtitle layout will be the same for a season, maybe multiple seasons. Movies? Star Wars uses a different layout in each movie, where the "forced" su...

Re: [Feature request] Clicking on file output name auto selects filename

Hmm... You're right, that it is dependent upon what you have MakeMKV using in place of spaces in auto-generated file names. I have mine set to use "_", which was the old default. It also breaks when titles have hyphens in them, or extra periods. When names have hyphens, I usually leave them untouche...

Clicking twice does that. Third click selects whole name, including extension. I regularly make use of that.

Re: Stuck on "Application Too Old" Error

Putting the error message you're getting into Google, I see a number of people having this issue with programs NOT from the Mac App Store, since they updated their MacOS. Apple has progressively made it harder to install things unless they're from the App Store. And applications like MakeMKV are pro...

Re: Multiple Instances

Practical limitation depends on how big a read buffer you give MakeMKV. If you set it for 512MB, each instance will allocation up to that much RAM for a buffer for disk reads/writes. Should you exceed PHYSICAL memory, things will slow down as the system starts swapping. If you're using USB-attached ...

Re: Captain Marvel

You don't, normally. MakeMKV will automatically download the key for a disk, if it exists already. If not, it will create the file necessary for creating the key, and tell you where it is and where to send it.

After a few days, it will be available for ripping.

Re: The Natural (1984) UHD Blu-Ray - Cannot be decrypted

If you've already sent one, you should not have to, but it couldn't hurt.

If you haven't, then yes you should, because there are often multiple versions of the UHD disk.

Re: Why Multiple English (Surround 5.1) Audio Tracks?

Most likely reason for multiple "identical" tracks is that MakeMKV can (and usually does, unless told not to) copy a "lossless" track into its core "lossy" track, and the "lossless" version. Post-rip track manipulation can be done with mkvtoolnix (no change to the tracks) or handbrake (compress the ...

Re: Can't rip (or even read) "The Hunger Games: Catching fire"

Anything that causes the blue laser to not focus well on the microscopic pits in the disk can cause read errors. Modern disks are shipped in cases that have chemical treatments that can transfer to the disk. If you look at the disk itself, you will see a nice, shiny reflection. But, if you take a da...

In MakeMKV, File->Open files. Navigate to the directory created by the back up process, and find the file index.bdmv in the BDMV directory. Highlight it and click Open.

Re: *UPDATED* 4K UHD DV backup playback

Once I've ripped the video with MakeMKV, there is no need for the playback hardware to even know about optical drives. It's never going to see the physical disk.

You need to email that file to svq@makemkv.com if you want it to processed quickly.
