Re: What do you guys do with your DVD copies from Blu-ray/DVD combo packs?

I do the same thing with the DVDs as I do with the BDs, put them in a storage box with the others. Neither is coming out of the box unless there is a reason to rip it again, because I discover that I screwed up something in encoding it and have already deleted the raw rip. The DVDs don't leave the c...

Re: multiple dvds not ripping

Sigh. It's a bug what was not manifesting itself. It happens only on discs that falsely claim closed-captions subtitles. Two workarounds, if you encounter a disc like that: 1. when selecting tracks, deselect the "cc->text" subtitle steams, as they are empty anyway. This is the easiest and fastest w...

Re: 4K Avengers Endgame error

If the errors were about not being able to read sectors, the only thing that can help that is cleaning or replacement.

However, if you do a backup of the disk, and that completes without error, you can have MakeMKV read that to make an MKV with the audio track you want.

Re: UHD Apollo 11

AV synchronization issues were found in file 'title_t00.mkv' (title #1) Forced subtitles track #6 turned out to be empty and was removed from output file The AV sync message is spurious - it really should be JUST the forced subtitle track message, but they're tied together for some reason. Re: Home Alone (Italian BD+) does not decode

There are rarely answers to submission emails; primarily, the response is an updated SVQ file being available that MakeMKV can pull when needed. Assuming you have "contact web server for updates" enabled, and it still isn't decoding, there may be an issue with it. With debug logging turned on, there...

The main question is, why doesn't the repository have the dev package for qt5, if it is using it?

Re: Issue Ripping Babylon 4 S1 Disc 4

Best bet if you've cleaned it is if you have someone local that has, and knows how to operate , a disk resurfacing machine. Prior to that, however, you can try my old stand-by... cleaning with Pledge furniture polish. It is a water-soluble wax that can fill minor surface scratches. Spray it on, rub ...

MakeMKV doesn't care about regions.

Re: Commentary audio playing in bluray

Are you letting MakeMKV select the tracks to pull?

Often, movies use "better specs" for commentary or descriptive audio track than the movie audio, and you'll have to manually select the correct track.

Re: Select two language automatically?

Ideally, being able to prioritize languages would be great.

You CAN do it via default selection settings, assigning specific languages and even given them precedence over each other. But it isn't nearly as easy as picking from a pull-down

Re: Purchased License: no longer able to register

You can have MakeMKV installed on multiple computers at the same time; the key is that it's for a single user, not something you distribute to your friends.

Re: ASUS BW-16D1HT - MakeMKV fails to get the audio track (sometimes)

I actually don't consider this a PEBKAC - it's an under-documented side effect of the setting. I tripped over it early on, which is why I remember it. I've also changed my methodology to select ALL audio/subtitle tracks, partly because some sources do not properly set language names. I sort the sele...

Re: MKV codec

MKV is a container, not a codec. It can contain a variety of codecs.

What the container can contain is outlined in the Metroska specification documents:

Re: Handbrake vs Mac X Video Converter Pro for use with .mkv files

Handbrake does not do HDR video right now, which is probably why your colors aren't as "vivid". It also defaults to "higher quality" than speed in the most recent versions, while it is likely that VCP is defaulting to speed, and MAY be making use of the hardware encoding available on newer Macs... t...
