Re: Hanging at 256MB

Ah, the perils of beta testing Windows 10...

And don't let Microsoft try to convince you otherwise; the people who let Win10 update on Microsoft's schedule are getting the beta release, which will be fixed up right around the next release.

Thanks for getting back to us on this.

Re: Hitchcock - The Lady Vanishes

It can. I've detailed elsewhere that I went through multiple copies of the Hercules TV series on DVD, trying to get one particular episode to rip. Even rented it to try and get a good copy. Every one failed at the same sector on the rip. Finally had to rip it with a genuine DVD drive, because Bluray...

Re: Shaking the external drive to bypass read errors

USB-powered drive, failing when it reaches a high speed... Classic "drive spinning too fast for the power available" failure. Drive exceeds power available from the USB port, and resets. Operating system panics. Two possibilities: 1. Plug it in to a USB3 port that has enough power ( not to an un-pow...

Re: Hitchcock - The Lady Vanishes

"Slows to a halt" usually means the drive is trying VERY HARD to recover sectors. You might see time-out errors when this happens, depending on the drive and how long it actually takes to read the sector.

The Mac should be logging what's crashing it. Do you have the system log event?

Re: Hanging at 256MB

Preferences->IO, try changing the "Read buffer size (MB)" to 64MB. Does the rip then stop at 64MB?

If it does, you probably have an issue where MakeMKV is not being allowed to write its cached data to the output file.

Re: Disc Not Read

If MakeMKV says "No disc", that's what the operating system told it. Either the drive (most likely) or Windows could not detect a formatted disk in the drive. This error will show up for UHD disk in a BD-only drive, for example.

Did other UHD discs inserted AFTER these two get recognized?

Re: What is the recommended external UHD drive for use with a AIO desktop?

The recommendation for "all-in-one" PC desktops is the same as for all-in-one Macs - Internal plus a compatible enclosure. That gives the best flexibility and speed.

Slim USB drives can run in to power problems and generate errors.

Re: Very odd problem... can't navigate to second hard drive in makemkv

Hopefully a silly question, but... What happens if you change the directory's name from "Not Ready" to "Not_Ready", i.e., remove the space? Spaces in file names can cause some strange things in any operating system. If you're at a bash prompt, you need to use a backslash to escape the space, because...

Re: Very odd problem... can't navigate to second hard drive in makemkv

Are you trying to get to the output by clicking on each directory in turn? Can you enter the full path and open it? I've had issues in the past where the mount point itself had "wrong" ownership, so it was invisible/unreachable, but directories under it were just fine. In cases like that, having the...

Re: Is WinX DVD Ripper a good alternative?

Since the PURPOSE of MakeMKV is to deal with copy-protected disks (not just DVDs), and I've used it for that in the past week or so, it would seem you have an issue with the actual read-the-disk part, which could be drive- or disk-related. In which chase, changing software isn't going to help the si...

Minimum title length (seconds) on the Preferences->Video page does what you propose, as far as setting a minimum size.

Re: Identifying the first chapter of an episode

"Best practice" is "whatever works." :) Typically I just let MakeMKV rip the whole file, then note the chapter ranges by playing the file in VLC. That then lets me construct a command line for handbrake to generate individual episodes. Sometimes, the authors will have the same number of chapters per...

Ah, different Woodstock. Have a friend who attended THAT Woodstock, probably the only Woodstock resident that was there. He even paid to attend, rather than crashing the gate like so many others.

Re: Virus Total showing trojan in installation file

Well, TrendMicro doesn't trigger when I submitted the download file to virustotal a few minutes ago. Cannot say why they'd detect on a local machine. I use AVG locally, and it didn't trip, either. As mentioned before, if your AV program complains, submit the file to them and have it reviewed. As Rea...
