Re: Bleach Blu Ray Side Black Bars even at 16:9

Lots of factors involved. One is that up-converting on a TV is done by hardware built in to the TV. Some have good hardware, some not so good. We do not get DVDs with "progressive" resolution; we get "interlaced frames", and correcting for that to display on a non-CRT display leaves artifacts behind...

Re: Bleach Blu Ray Side Black Bars even at 16:9

Why would you possibly want RF=0? RF=0 is called "placebo" for a reason. If you're not dealing with an original, uncompressed source, you're just telling the encoder to "faithfully render the artifacts of the previous encode". What's on the BD is not uncompressed. It has been compressed at about the...

Re: Removing an audio track from an mkv

The original poster was looking at not re-encoding the file just to remove the track. Your description of Joyoshare (and their webpage) indicate that it would be doing re-encoding. The mkvtoolnix solution just removes the unwanted track, without making other changes.

Re: Bleach Blu Ray Side Black Bars even at 16:9

Bleach is a 4:3 aspect ratio show; the BD conversion did not change that. The black bars, called Letterboxing, are used to fill the empty space that comes with upscaling 640x480 video to 1440x1080, then placing it on the 1920x1080 canvas of BD. Handbrake will remove the letterbox, and reduce the siz...

Re: Library file structure help

Is there a particular reason to keep the different versions in separate directories? I can think of a few, but... For you, do they outweigh the issue of, say, searching your 4K directories looking for "XYZZY, The Animation", only to discover that you only have it in "regular" BD format, then have to...

Re: MakeMKV not loading DVD

It is possible that your drive won't allow MakeMKV to bypass the region coding on the disk. Does the log make mention of that?

Re: need help with my BDR-S12UHT

Pioneer drives won't rip UHD disks at this point. So, if you want to do that, you need a drive from a different manufacturer.

Re: Selling UltraHD Friendly+Official UHD drives,USB,USB C,sleep bug fix,Remote Flashing,Tested no read errors

The "-U" drive is "the wrong drive". It cannot handle BD-XL or UHD.

It's a good "plain" BD drive, though, just won't work for UHD.

Re: MakeMKV not loading DVD

"Not loading" can mean many things. Does MakeMKV say "NO DISK" after the disk stops spinning? That's the operating system saying it could not find a usable file system on the disk. That could be an issue with the drive, or the disk could just be formatted differently. Is the disk one of those "DVD+C...

So, did you also email the file to svq@makemkv.com, so that something will happen with it? Attaching it to a forum message doesn't add it to the key creation queue...

MakeMKV does not normally rip by "chapters"; it rips titles.

Re: Right aspect ratio, but zoomed out?

There are ways to "fix" the issue, but it comes down to choices the disk author made. There are two places on a DVD that the aspect ratio can be stored, and they both should match... But "should" doesn't mean "does". MakeMKV chooses to use one of them, which may be incorrect. Someone should pop in i...

Re: Veronica Mars Season 1 Disc 5

Your drive says it can't read parts of the disk. First step is cleaning the disk.

Re: Right aspect ratio, but zoomed out?

Welcome to the world of anamorphic vs. non-anamorphic. DVDs are basically 720x480, and to get 16x9 there are a few choices. Shrink the height and leave the width alone, or leave both alone but tell the player that the pixels are wider than they are high. The former is the way it was originally done,...
